The Southern Oregon Meth Project is a three year initiative established by KOBI TV NBC 5 Medford and KOTI TV NBC 2 Klamath Falls, in conjunction with its community partners.  Bob Wise, Vice President/General Manager of NBC 5 and NBC 2, started the effort and developed a plan to bring partners in to financially fund the minimum 3-year initiative.  Stopping the meth epidemic before it begins for young people was the genesis of the Southern Oregon Meth Project.

KOBI and KOTI knew prevention targeted at young people was critical to begin to turn the tide of 75 percent of children in foster care being there because of meth and 8 out of 10 arrests being related to meth. Overwhelmed courts and jails in our community helped drive partners to come together to stop the next generation from worsening the problem.

United Way of Jackson County received a grant from the Reed and Carolee Walker Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation through the Jackson County Meth Task Force to begin the partnership. Bob is managing the project with the goal to heighten awareness to the dangers of meth in individuals ages 11 to 18 and to promote a meth-free lifestyle in Southern Oregon.
